Classification of unshaped refractory materials that you must know

2023.11.22

Unshaped refractory material is a mixture of refractory aggregate and powder, binder or admixture in a certain proportion, which can be used directly or after adding appropriate liquid. It is a new type of refractory material without calcination, and its refractoriness is not less than 1580℃.

Classification of amorphous refractory materials:

1. Classification by chemical properties: acidic, neutral, alkaline.

2. Classification by delivery status: shaped products and bulk materials.

3. Classification by construction and production methods:

1. Refractory castables: Refractory castables are also called refractory concrete or refractory pouring materials. They have good thixotropic properties and are generally constructed by pouring or pouring and vibrating.

2. Refractory ramming materials: Materials formed by pneumatic picks or manual ramming.

3. Refractory plastics: Refractory plastics are made of refractory aggregates and powders with appropriate binders and admixtures. They are in the form of mud or irregular lumps. They can maintain good plasticity for a certain period of time, so they are called refractory plastics.

4. Refractory spray coatings: Refractory spray coatings are materials formed by spraying or pumping. If used for furnace repair, they are also called refractory spraying materials. When a flame jet machine is used to repair the furnace, it is called refractory melt spraying material. Materials pumped or sprayed with wet materials are also called wet spray materials or pumped materials.

5. Refractory coating materials: Refractory coating materials are materials formed by plasterers and mortar pumps or applied manually.

6. Refractory projection materials: Refractory projection materials are materials formed by projection machines.

7. Refractory press materials: Refractory press materials are materials formed by pressure equipment such as mud pumps.

8. Unfired bricks: Unfired bricks are products formed by presses.

9. Prefabricated blocks: Prefabricated blocks include seat bricks and breathable bricks, which are products formed by vibration or ramming.

10. Refractory slurry or refractory mud: Refractory slurry or refractory mud is a caulking material for laying refractory bricks and prefabricated blocks with a trowel or similar tools.
